Notes from Rogers Environmental Center
BACKYARD BIRD FEEDING PROGRAM The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne invites you to a program about backyard bird feeding on Saturday, November 1 at 10 am. Want to spruce up your bird food offerings and learn more about birds that visit feeders? Find out which tasty treats attract various birds and how to create a feeding area that provides water and shelter, as well as food. Make your own suet cakes, peanut butter pine cones, or fruit n' seed cups to take home. This program is appropriate for all ages. Children should be accompanied by an adult helper.
WEASELS PROGRAM AT ROGERS CENTER The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne invites you to learn more about weasels and their kin on Saturday, November 8 at 11 am. The weasel family includes animals that share similar characteristics, but use different skills and habitats to survive. Ermine, mink, and fisher are just a few of the members of the weasel family found in New York State. Join Rogers Center staff to compare and contrast some of the pelts and skulls and behaviors of many weasel relatives to find out what makes each animal unique.
Rogers Environmental Education Center, operated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the not-for-profit Friends of Rogers, Inc., is located one mile west of Sherburne on Route 80. It is 45 minutes south of Utica via Route 12, one hour north of Binghamton via Route 12, and 75 minutes southeast of Syracuse via Routes 20 east and 12 south.
